Foundation Delivers 37,000 Bottles of Water for Metro to Share with Homeless Agencies

In support of Metro, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) Foundation arranged for delivery of 15 palettes of bottled water (37,000 bottles) to the City of Las Vegas’ Homeless Resource Center to be distributed to local nonprofits whose mission is to support individuals experiencing homelessness. The nonprofits include: Catholic Charities, East Valley Family Services, Family Promise, Foundation for Recovery, Jewish Family Services, Las Vegas Rescue Mission, Rise Homes, Salvation Army, The Shade Tree, Well Care Navigation Center, and Youth Advocate Las Vegas.

“With the summer’s extreme heat, those experiencing homelessness are at a significantly higher risk of suffering from heat-associated illnesses and death,’ says Olivia Smith, director of community outreach at LVMPD Foundation. Extreme heat is already the leading cause of weather-related death in the United States.

The homeless service providers will hand out the water throughout the sweltering Las Vegas summer to help mitigate increased risks from dehydration.

The initiative is led by LVMPD Lt. Andrew Saavedra and is sponsored in part by community partners including Caesars Entertainment, Cox Communications, Jersey Mike’s, The Palms Casino Resort, Shetakis Wholesalers, and Tahoe Springs Water Company.
