32nd Annual LVMPD K-9 Trials March 24 at South Point Arena

Everyone loves the K-9s, and now is your chance to see them in action as the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Foundation hosts the 32nd Annual LVMPD K-9 Trials on March 24, 2024, at South Point Arena, 9777 S. Las Vegas Blvd. Doors open at 8:00 am, the opening ceremony at 9:00 am, and competitions start at 9:30 am.

K-9 teams from law enforcement, military, and hotel and casino properties compete in a variety of events, including Agility and Handler Protection. The top three finishers will receive Tough Dog, Top Dog, and Top Agency awards. Teams are judged on many facets of their performance, including handler tactics.

More than 5,000 people are expected to attend. FREE General Admission tickets to the LVMPD K-9 Trials are available to the public. Register online at Tickets: 32nd Annual LVMPD K-9 Trials

The emcees for the show are LVMPD Southeast Area Command Captain Jeff Clark and Beth Fisher, who handles Community Relations for the agency. In addition to all the skilled K-9 competitors, LVMPD SWAT will kick-start the action with a dramatic opening ceremony demonstration.

The LVMPD K-9 Section is one of the oldest, continuously operating K-9 units in the United States, comprised of 16 officers, three sergeants, one lieutenant, 18 patrol dogs, five narcotic detector dogs, and five explosive detector dogs. Three patrol dogs are also certified as human remains detectors.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Foundation is the producer of the event and will have K-9 branded merchandise available for sale at the Trials. Proceeds from merchandise sales provide healthcare for retired LVMPD K-9s, Metro area commands, equipment & technology, and positive community engagement activities that help make Las Vegas safer for all.

Highlighting the event’s importance to the community, Karen Marben, Executive Director of the LVMPD Foundation, says, “The LVMPD K-9 Trials serve as a unique platform for the public to witness and appreciate the incredible skills of law enforcement teams and their K-9 partners. This firsthand experience helps break down barriers and contributes to a better understanding of policing in our community.”
