10th Annual Sheriff Salutes the Best of the Badge Gala on Oct 20, 2023

Please join Sheriff Kevin McMahill as he makes his first salute to honor the brave men and women of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) at the 10th Annual Sheriff Salutes The Best of The Badge Gala, the official celebration of the LVMPD’s 50th Anniversary.

Each year, the LVMPD honors its men and women in law enforcement for distinguishing themselves in the line of duty. These are our dedicated officers who save lives, risk theirs, and make a difference in our community. This night, we will share the dramatic and sometimes harrowing stories that earned our top cops a commendation. These are officers who represent the “Best of the Badge.”

This year we will honor the legacy of four fallen heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our community. Each officer’s story is of selflessness, courage, and unwavering dedication to upholding the law and protecting our community.

LVMPD Officer Truong Thai’s (End of Watch: 10.13.22) story is particularly poignant as he was tragically killed in the line of duty while responding to a domestic disturbance near UNLV. We remember him as a true hero who exemplified the highest standards of law enforcement.

Sheriff Kevin McMahill will honor three law enforcers who died from COVID-19, Officer Philip Closi (End of Watch: 08.11.21), Sergeant Douglas King (End of Watch: 08.23.21), and Officer Ed Contreras (End of Watch: 09.28.21), as Line of Duty Deaths.

Your sponsorship contributes to the recognition they deserve and further strengthens the 50-year bond between law enforcement and the community. With your help, we can celebrate these extraordinary law enforcement individuals and help make a lasting difference to public safety in Southern Nevada.
