An LVMPD Foundation Initiative Addresses Food Insecurity While Building Trust and Public Safety

November 4, 2025

This year, 500 families in Southern Nevada will enjoy a Thanksgiving meal thanks to a community initiative by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) Foundation. The annual program lets LVMPD officers deliver complete Thanksgiving dinners, including turkey and holiday sides, directly to families in need across the valley.

With support from Naqvi Injury Law, Walmart, and other generous community and corporate partners, the initiative focuses on families living in high-service call areas who face food insecurity. Officers from all 10 LVMPD Area Commands, along with two substations and the Office of Community Engagement, will deliver the meals.

“Helping families in need goes hand in hand with keeping our neighborhoods safe,” said Karen Marben, executive director of the LVMPD Foundation. “When officers show up with compassion, it strengthens relationships and reinforces public safety at the community level.”

Through this initiative, the LVMPD Foundation highlights the connection between community well-being and effective policing. By easing the financial strain of the holidays, the program helps reduce the stresses that can contribute to crime and crisis. It also fosters positive relationships between officers and the residents they serve.

LVMPD Community Oriented Policing (COP) teams will personally deliver meals to pre-registered families in the neighborhoods they regularly serve. These face-to-face interactions build lasting trust and show that policing is as much about empathy and partnership as it is about protection and service.

This effort is part of the Foundation’s Holiday Gift & Give campaign, which also provides a one-on-one holiday shopping experience for 275 underserved children alongside LVMPD officers. Together, these programs demonstrate the Foundation’s mission to build a stronger, safer, and more connected community.
