Hope in a Moment of Heartbreak: Honoring Officer Michael Monteleone with The Good Ticket

On May 29, the LVMPD Foundation, in partnership with Resorts World Las Vegas, presented a deeply moving Good Ticket Award to Officer Michael Monteleone of the Downtown Area Command. The ceremony served as a reminder that policing is not just about responding to calls—it’s about showing up with heart in life’s most difficult moments.

Officer Monteleone was recognized for his extraordinary compassion during a tragic murder-suicide call involving three young boys who lost both of their parents in a single, unthinkable moment. When he arrived on scene, Officer Monteleone instinctively focused on the children—just 8, 6, and 4 years old—who had witnessed the aftermath.

In his remarks, Officer Monteleone shared how he felt drawn to the boys and how the situation reminded him of himself and his own brothers, who are close in age. His presence became a steady source of comfort: he kept the children in his patrol vehicle, distracted them with conversation about school, soccer, and the equipment in his car, and gently redirected their questions about their parents. For over two hours, he stayed by their side—offering safety, reassurance, and humanity.

The room was moved to tears as he recounted the emotional weight of the day and the personal connection he felt to the children. His story exemplifies what The Good Ticket is all about: compassion in action, and the impact of a single officer choosing to lead with empathy.

We were honored to welcome Carlos Castro, the newly appointed President & CEO of Resorts World Las Vegas, who joined us in recognizing Officer Monteleone’s heroism. His presence underscores the value of strong community partnerships that make programs like The Good Ticket possible.

We also extend our sincere thanks to members of the Convention Center Area Command COP Team who attended the ceremony and continue to demonstrate what it means to build trust and relationships in our community every day.

The Good Ticket is more than a recognition—it’s a celebration of the everyday humanity within our law enforcement officers. Officer Monteleone’s actions on that day won’t just be remembered by the families involved—they stand as a powerful example for us all.
