Building a Stronger Start: LVMPD Foundation to Assemble 1,000 Backpacks for Local Students

Back-to-School Initiative Empowers Youth and Strengthens Community Bonds

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) Foundation is once again stepping up to ensure students across the Las Vegas Valley are prepared to start the school year with confidence and support. On Tuesday, July 29, 2025, in partnership with LVMPD officers and community volunteers, the Foundation will assemble 1,000 backpacks filled with essential school supplies.

The event takes place from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Walmart, 201 N. Nellis Blvd., and is part of the Foundation’s annual Back-to-School Initiative—a key program that exemplifies its broader mission to build trust, uplift families, and support public safety through positive community engagement.

After the assembly, LVMPD Community Oriented Policing (COP) Teams will distribute the backpacks to children and families in need at high-service call areas and community resource fairs throughout the valley. These officers serve not only as protectors, but as connectors—bringing critical resources directly to the communities that need them most.

“This initiative is about more than school supplies. It’s about giving students a sense of hope, encouraging academic success, and fostering strong relationships between law enforcement and the families they serve,” said Karen Marben, executive director of the LVMPD Foundation.

The Back-to-School Initiative is made possible through private donations and generous community support, including contributions from Anthem Medicaid and Lexicon Bank. To join the LVMPD Foundation in supporting local youth, visit
