HYDROPONICS YOUTH MENTORSHIP PROJECT GROWS TRUST
Growing Futures and Building Trust
The Hydroponics Youth Mentorship Project is a partnership between the LVMPD Foundation, UNR Extension, and LVMPD that uses hands-on STEM education to engage at-risk high school students. Through hydroponic gardening, students learn practical skills while working alongside police officers who serve as mentors—building trust, breaking down barriers, and creating meaningful connections.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) Foundation is sowing the seeds of success by expanding the Mentorship with the Hydroponics Project with the University of Nevada, Reno Extension’s Youth Horticulture Education Program. This dynamic initiative is now branching out to Chaparral High School for the remainder of the 2023/2024 school year. This project, rooted in STEM education and hydroponics, is not just about plants—it’s about cultivating positive relationships and opportunities for at-risk high school students.
The LVMPD Foundation has collaborated with Extension, LVMPD, and Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield to bring this program to Chaparral High School. Additionally, a $9,200 grant from The Home Depot Foundation was secured to renovate the classroom, creating an environment conducive to learning and growth.
Together, we're empowering youth, fostering respect, and growing a safer, more united Las Vegas. Support youth development and community trust in Southern Nevada when you make a contribution to the LVMPD Foundation.
