Hispanic Citizens' Police Academy
Empowering Connections, Building Safer Communities
The Hispanic Citizens' Police Academy in Las Vegas is a free, 12-week evening program offered by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) to strengthen trust and communication between law enforcement and the Hispanic community.
Since its founding in 2007, the program has graduated over 1,000 community members, empowering them with knowledge and building bridges between residents and the department.
Conducted in Spanish and English, the Hispanic Citizens' Police Academy provides participants with an in-depth, behind-the-scenes look at police operations through interactive classes on topics like patrol procedures, narcotics, gangs, domestic violence, and more. It also includes live demonstrations, facility tours, and ride-alongs with officers.
Supporting the LVMPD’s Hispanic Citizens' Academy is a vital investment in building trust, safety, and mutual understanding between law enforcement and the Hispanic community. By offering Spanish-language instruction and an inside look at police procedures, the Academy helps bridge cultural and communication gaps, empowers residents with knowledge, and encourages active civic engagement. Graduates leave the program better equipped to collaborate with law enforcement, share vital information within their neighborhoods, and promote positive community change. This support not only strengthens relationships but also enhances public safety across Southern Nevada.
