Spreading Holiday Cheer and Making a Difference to 325 Children

The holidays are a time for joy, giving, and connection—and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) Foundation’s annual Shop with a Cop event embodies all these values and more. This year’s initiative proved our most impactful yet, as we brought together hundreds of children, LVMPD officers, and generous community partners to make the holiday season brighter for families across the Las Vegas Valley.

The Event: Where Joy Meets Community

This past weekend, over 150 children from low-income families gathered at Walmart for a morning filled with shopping, laughter, and unforgettable moments with LVMPD officers. Each child, pre-selected based on financial need, had the opportunity to pick out clothing, toys, and gifts. For many, this experience marked the first time they could truly embrace the joy of holiday giving.

Paired with LVMPD officers from departments such as Community Oriented Policing (COP), CSI, SWAT, K-9, and Probation, the children spent quality time with their shopping buddies, fostering meaningful connections. These one-on-one interactions allow kids to see law enforcement as caring individuals invested in their well-being.

The highlight of the day? Santa Claus arriving in style by helicopter! 🚁🎅 The children’s wide-eyed excitement and radiant smiles were the perfect reminder of the magic this event brings to the community.

The Impact: A Season of Giving Across the Valley

Our work doesn’t stop here. The Shop with a Cop event is just one part of the LVMPD Foundation’s broader Holiday Gift & Give initiative. This year, we’re reaching even more children through additional holiday programs:

  • Santa Cops at Macy’s at Fashion Show Mall: Soon, 75 children will have the opportunity to shop for gifts at Macy’s, continuing the spirit of giving in a festive and welcoming setting.
  • Target’s Heroes for Holidays: Through this program, 100 children will enjoy a similar shopping experience, creating even more cherished memories with LVMPD officers.

In total, more than 325 children will benefit from these programs, spreading holiday joy far and wide while strengthening bonds between law enforcement and the community.

Making It All Possible

None of this would be achievable without the generosity of our community partners. This year, the Holiday Gift & Give initiative was made possible thanks to contributions from:

  • Altar’d State
  • Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield
  • AT&T
  • Axos Bank
  • CCCU Credit Union
  • Brett Torino Foundation
  • Macy’s
  • Cody Nakhjavanpour
  • Sunshine Minting
  • Diana Xu / State Farm Insurance Inc.

Your support is helping us create a stronger, safer, and more connected Las Vegas community.

Looking Ahead: Together, We Build Community

As we reflect on this year’s Shop with a Cop and prepare for the upcoming Macy’s and Target events, we’re reminded of the power of community. By coming together, we’re not just brightening the holidays for hundreds of children—we’re fostering hope, trust, and a sense of belonging that will last long after the season ends.

To everyone who contributed, participated, or cheered us on from afar: thank you. Together, we’re making the holidays—and our community—brighter, one smile at a time.

Stay tuned for more updates and photos from these events as we continue to celebrate the season of giving! 🎄💙
