More than 15,000 children from low-income neighborhoods, more than double the number from last year, will be uplifted this Spring by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Foundation and Metro officers.
The LVMPD Foundation has sourced and purchased 2,500 Easter baskets, 40,000 plastic eggs, and 50,000 pieces of candy for law enforcement to distribute at multiple Springtime events throughout Las Vegas. The holiday supplies are purchased thanks to contributions from community partners and donations from the public.
“Our Easter Baskets for Children campaign is a simple way for people to purchase Easter baskets for children,” says Tom Kovach, executive director of the Foundation. “Events like the Easter festivities organized by the police, faith-based groups, and community leaders help build trust between law enforcement and young people. Enjoying Easter egg hunts and other games gives children a chance to talk to the police during good times, not just when there is a crisis. It’s an experience that we hope will have a positive impact later in life.”
