Las Vegas, Nev. (August 22, 2023) – The 10th Annual Safe Neighborhood Youth 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament, presented by the LVMPD Foundation, will happen on Saturday, October 21, starting at 8 AM at the UNLV Student Recreation and Wellness Center, 4505 S. Maryland Pkwy.
A fun day of hoops, the 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament provides Valley children an opportunity to interact with police in a fun way while developing life skills such as teamwork and sportsmanship. Boys and girls aged 6-12 will compete in three age-based divisions to ensure fairness: 6-8, 9-10, and 11-12.
Participants will receive a basketball jersey with the Area Command name they represent.
Walt Walters and Earl White, LVMPD Foundation board members, started the tournament as a way for kids and police officers to connect beyond their usual roles. Playing basketball helps kids see officers as friendly people they can trust, breaking down barriers and improving communication and teamwork between the police and the community.
The 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament includes College Readiness events, UNLV campus tours, Parent Resource information, and lots of fun.
Youth participation is free to residents. Sign-up is limited to the first 1000 children. Register today at https://tinyurl.com/LVMPD3on3
