Sixth Annual Sheriff Salutes the Best of the Badge Gala

Las Vegas (Sept. 5, 2018) – On Friday, Sept. 14, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) Foundation will hold its Sixth Annual Sheriff Salutes the Best of the Badge Gala at 5 p.m. inside Red Rock Casino Resort & Spa. The event will recognize outstanding officers who have gone above and beyond the call of duty. These are dedicated officers who save lives, risk theirs and make a difference in the community. The event will highlight and share the dramatic and sometimes harrowing stories that earned these officers a commendation and represent the “Best of the Badge.”

This year, the LVMPD Foundation will honor more than 180 officers who made significant contributions to community safety in the line of duty, including those involved in the response to the 1 October tragedy. Officers will receive the highest honors that the Department issues: the Purple Heart, the Medal of Honor and the Medal of Valor.  LVMPD will also present a posthumous Purple Heart award for Officer Charleston Hartfield, who lost his life the night of 1 October while assisting in the response.

“Each and every day our officers are fighting crime and keeping our community safe,” said Tom Kovach, executive director of the LVMPD Foundation. “It’s great that we get an opportunity like Sheriff Salutes the Best of the Badge Gala to recognize officers for their outstanding efforts on our behalf.”

Funds raised from the Sheriff Salutes the Best of the Badge Gala directly support community safety programs, advanced officer training and essential crime-fighting equipment and technology. The reception will start at 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 14 at Red Rock Casino Resort & Spa.
