On September 15, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) Foundation will launch the Hispanic Giving Circle at El Grito, a celebration recognizing the Independence of Mexico and the commemoration of Hispanic Heritage Month. El Grito will be held at the East Las Vegas Community Center at 250 N. Eastern Avenue starting at 6 PM.
The LVMPD Foundation’s newest initiative is intended to improve the lives of Hispanic families via meaningful community-based initiatives and strengthen relationships between the Southern Nevada Hispanic community and local law enforcement.
The launch of The Hispanic Giving Circle is made possible by partnerships with the Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Brenden Mann Foundation, Entravision and the Latin Chamber of Commerce.
The goals of the Hispanic Giving Circle are to ensure the continued growth of vital programs including: Back-to-School Initiative, providing backpacks and essential supplies to students; Bolden Lions Futbol Club for Boys & Girls, providing mentorship and positives experiences on and off the field; Law Enforcement Empowerment and Athletic Program (LEEAP), demonstrating the power and worth of youth of color; Hispanic Citizens Police Academy, building trust with Metro; National Night Out, an annual community-building campaign promoting police-community partnerships; and several Holiday Giving Opportunities like Halloween Trick or Trunk events, Thanksgiving Family Meals, Shop with a Cop and more.
“By offering membership in the Hispanic Giving Circle, the LVMPD Foundation can provide the means for programming that directly impacts Hispanic communities, making a significant difference in their lives and the public safety of their neighborhoods,” said Lisa Tomlin-Kurr, Director of Development at the LVMPD Foundation.
Membership from community and local leaders to the LVMPD Foundation’s Hispanic Giving Circle will allow the Foundation to maintain and grow programs that represent an investment in the Hispanic community.
