Over 90 local officers, including Shay Mikalonis, to be recognized at Wynn Las Vegas on November 5th
On Friday, November 5th, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) Foundation will hold its eighth annual Sheriff Salutes the Best of the Badge Gala at 5 p.m. at Wynn Las Vegas. Sheriff Joe Lombardo will recognize these courageous officers who have gone above and beyond the call of duty in our community and in the fight against COVID-19. Annually, the gala shares the dramatic and sometimes harrowing stories that earned our top cops a commendation for representing the “Best of the Badge.”
“Las Vegas residents and business leaders will get to see up close some of our most dedicated officers who risk their lives to build a stronger community for them,” said Tom Kovach, executive director of the LVMPD Foundation. “The Best of the Badge Gala is a great opportunity to hear some of the amazing acts of valor our officers are performing daily.”
On this special evening, Erik Lloyd and Officer Jason Swanger will be recognized in Memorium, and we will honor Officer Shay Mikalonis for his bravery in the line of duty. Officers being honored for their heroic actions on the job will be presented awards including the Purple Heart, Medal of Honor, Medal of Valor and the Preservation of Life award. One hundred officers, staff members, EMT technicians and a civilian will receive their honors, representing commendations for 2020 and 2021.
Funds raised from the Sheriff Salutes the Best of the Badge Gala directly support a diverse array of initiatives including updated technology, equipment, higher education scholarships for children of officers, and a myriad of community engagement and public safety programs. Additionally, the LVMPD Foundation continues to fundraise for the construction of the Reality Based Training Center. This state-of-the-art facility will provide a cooperative world-class training campus for Nevada’s First Responders.
